Position SummaryGeneral laborers employed at Veritas Steel are responsible for grinding, drilling, shop clean-up, and miscellaneous tasks as assigned by Shop Supervisor. They must be able to meet high production demands in a timely manner and complete high quality work with expertise. General laborers must also adhere to company policies to ensure a safe working environment.Principle Duties and Responsibilitieso Uses proper safety equipment to ensure surfaces are adequately prepared for all operationso Maintains shop, equipment, tools, vehicles, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety o Coordinates with shop supervisor and other personnel for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently, on time, and with no defectso Assists others as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities o Adheres to safety policies to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and surrounding coworkers o Performs other related duties, as assigned, to maintain a steady flow of product through the shop and to ensure an efficient and effective work environmentMeasures of Performanceo Quality, accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability of work performed o Safety record and no damage to products or equipmento Works with coworkers to meet the performance and productivity goals of the workday o Ability to establish and maintain trust and respect of shop supervisors and coworkersKnowledge, Skills, and Abilitieso Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English o Need to be able to read metric tapeso Able to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 poundso Must be able to push /move objects up to 50 pounds of forceo Pulling requirements up to 122 pounds of forceo Necessary to stand, walk, and stoop up to 66% of shifto Flexibility is necessary to work with others in a variety of circumstances and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methodso Must be able to work with a wide variety of individuals in the workplace o General laborers must be able to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, meet deadlines and schedules, work as part of a team, and work with constant interruptions during the workdayo Employee must be able to deal effectively with times pressures, long hours, rapidly changing priorities, and stress o Union environment experience is preferred o Employee must have at least a high school education or GEDo Welding experience is preferred but not requiredPhysical RequirementsoAble to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 poundsoMust be able to push /move objects up to 50 pounds of forceoPulling requirements up to 122 pounds of forceoNecessary to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel up to 66% of shiftoMust have good range of motion when reaching forward, shoulder to overhead, and bendingoAgile fingers and thumbs on both handsWorking ConditionsA general laborer's work at Veritas Steel is performed indoors in a large warehouse and outside in all weather conditions. There is regular exposure to dirt, dust, paint fumes, noise, moving equipment, heavy steel, and other possible hazardous conditions. Earplugs, hardhats, respirator, safety glasses and steel-toed boots with metatarsal guards are required. PI186749928
